Or contact us using this page or download an application form here.
Registration
We will then arrange a mutually convenient time for an interview. Please fill out your application form as fully as possible to avoid delay, and bring with you with the appropriate documents as mentioned on this page.
The interview
Our interviews are informal, but it is important that we gain as much information as possible about you so that we can assess your suitability and best find the work that you are seeking. We will ask questions about your previous work experience, your aims for the future and the type of work that you are looking for. We will explain how Hanover Care can help, and the type of shifts that we have. We will photocopy your documents, and make a note of any information that is still outstanding.
Vetting and referencing
We will need to send off for a minimum of 2 references, which should cover a minimum of 5 years. (This is why it is important to have a full employment history). We can discuss aspects of referencing when you come for interview. We also ask all applicants to complete an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) application (previously CRB). These cost £45.
Initial training
Depending on the training that you have completed prior to Hanover Care, you will often be booked on mandatory training courses. Some of these you will need prior to starting work, and other courses you will be booked on in subsequent months.
Ready to Go
Provided the details outlined above come back satisfactorily, you will then be approved to work. You will be provided with an ID Badge, a uniform, timesheets, a staff handbook and any necessary additional equipment (gloves, aprons, etc) depending on the client group you are working with. At this stage, it is important to talk with your consultant about when you would want your first shift. Welcome to Hanover Care!
What training do you offer?
We have an expansive training programme from induction, through mandatory courses and onto more specialized training organized to ensure our staff are well-prepared for our clients’ needs. Many of our staff have also undertaken NVQ2 and NVQ3s through us.
Can I have another job as well as work for your agency?
Yes. Some staff use Hanover Care to ‘top up’ their income. It’s an ideal way to work in a different setting to other work. The key is communication, letting Hanover Care know the times you do and don’t want work.
How do I get paid?
On submission of a correctly completed and signed timesheet by our deadline (Monday midday), you will get paid directly into your bank account on the following Friday.
What are the benefits of working for an agency?
Many agency workers prefer the flexibility it offers. They can choose where and when they work, the shifts are varied, and it is great for widening your experience. With progressive agencies such as Hanover Care offering other benefits not previously associated with agency work (e.g. holiday pay, ongoing training) there are even more benefits than ever before.
What documents do I need to bring to interview?
Proof of ID (Passport or Birth Certificate)
Work Permit (where applicable)
Proof of National Insurance Number (e.g a P45, P60, or National Insurance Card)
Any relevant qualification certificates (e.g. NVQ2 or NVQ3). It is also helpful to have certificates confirming any care courses undertaken, for example – Manual Handling, First Aid, Fire Safety, Food Hygiene, Safeguarding Adults, Infection Control, Health & Safety, etc…
Two proofs of current address (bank statement/utility bill dated within the last 3 months)
Driving license (optional)
Statement of Entry and PIN Card (Trained Nurses only)
Other considerations: When you come into the office, we will ask you to fill in our application form. This includes a full employment history, so please bring with those details to help you complete the form. We will also need to send off a DBS form (formerly known as a CRB), the current charge is £45, unless you have signed up to the online DBS service through another employer. To send off a new form, you will need details of addresses for the last 5 years.
Do I get holiday pay?
Yes. Holiday pay acrues each time you are paid. When you wish to take some time off, simply give us at least 2 weeks notice and we will pay the requested amount.
Holiday pay is calculated as a percentage of your pay equivalent to 28 days per annum (pro-rata).
What experience do I need?
Most of our job roles normally require at least 6 months’ relevant professional experience.
